Tale of Two Cities Vocabulary Sentence!!

So you've been assigned a vocabulary word . . . please take a few minutes and construct a wonderful sentence that shows you understand the meaning of the word.  Please make sure your sentence is contextually rich so that we can determine the meaning of the word from the context clues in your sentence!  Your sentences will be peer reviewed and commented upon, so please be mindful of that when you create your sentence!

Step it Up!!

O.K. so we're going to continue with what we've begun.  Please . . . really Step it Up!  Include a quote that you have come across in your readings, what made you choose it?  What does it mean to you?   From here on out, submit a turn of a phrase that you've found through something that you've read.  It does not have to be nearly as long as the quote I've pulled.  But I want you to think about what you're reading.  How is it phrased?  What words are thrown together that make something completely new and unique?   Don't forget to cite the author and where you found it.  Have fun paying attention to what you read!!!

I've included my own turn of a phrase taken from Ernest Hemingway when he introduced his novel The Sun Also Rises with this biblical quote from Ecclesiastes.   This quote has always intrigued me . . . you know, the whole insignificance, the smallness of our lives in comparison to the vastness of the universe.  But yet, our lives and the daily minutia of it is what I find so profoundly beautiful.  I found this quote when I was about 18 years old and have carried it around ever since.  For some reason it has always comforted me.  Do you find inspiration and comfort in this passage or does it evoke a different feeling?  (It's a rhetorical question -- I'm curious, but you don't have to answer!!)

"One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh; but the earth abideth forever. The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down,and hasteth to the place where he arose. The wind goeth toward thesouth, and turneth about unto the north; it whirleth about continually,and the wind returneth again according to his circuits.  All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again."       -Ecclesiastes

Turn a Phrase

I've been wanting to add this assignment for some time now.    I let it lapse last year, but I think now is the time to resurrect it.   I hope you like it.   

This is the deal:  We read so much, and so many times we read something that we like, some quote that's catchy, or that makes us laugh, or smile, or think, or frown, or cry, or want to share it with someone we know will appreciate it.  The problem usually is that by the time we see that person, we forget about the beautiful language or interesting thought that we wanted to remember.  Anyway, that's where the "Turn a Phrase" blog comes in handy.  

Your task is to leave us a morsel each week from something that you've read that has some sort of appeal to you.  Something that evokes a feeling, whatever that may be.  So, read, read, read, and when you come across a quote (which you inevitably will), blog.  Tell us what you think about your quote, why you chose it, where you found it, and what it means to you.  And feel free to comment on someone else's quote if you wish.
